About the Event

The Roughing Gouge is an essential tool in spindle turning and there is a lot more to appreciate about using the tool than many people realize. It's about more than just roughing a square blank to a cylinder. This demonstration will show how to sharpen the gouge while discussing how and when to use it and when not to use it.. The correct way to hold the gouge and the importance of body positioning will also be demonstrated.  The design of the tool and recommended bevel angle will also be discussed. The instructor Frank Penta is a master woodturner. To see his Bio, please click <here>.
